Offline Job Listings

Although the above links will help you find a lot of job openings, many jobs never get posted on websites or newspapers.  It is important that you look for jobs “offline” as well.  Three of the best ways to look for job openings offline are:

·       Job Fairs: A great way to meet employers and apply for many jobs in a short amount of time.

ð Click here for more upcoming Job Fairs and Tips on how to do well

·       Company Job Lines: Many companies keep a recording of their open positions that you can listen to anytime.

ð Click here for a list of local company’s Job Line phone numbers

·       Networking / Word-of-Mouth:  Let everyone you know that you are looking for a job and ask them about any ideas they may have or possibilities they may have heard of.  Ask them if they will refer you or if you can use their name to help get your foot in the door.  This is one of the most effective job search strategies.

ð Be organized about your networking.  Use this log.

·       Cold Contacting:  Find out the names of companies you might want to work for and contact their human resources manager or the manager of the department you want to work for.  Let them know about your skills and experience and the type of position you are looking for.  Even if they do not have any positions open now, see if they will give you an “informational interview” so you can learn more and increase the chance of them hiring you when they do have an opening.
